All speakers seek to connect to their audience. Your audience needs to empathise with you and you need to gain some kind of response from them. Ultimately, good public speakers engage with an audience rather than lecture them.
This, the penultimate assignment, asks you to demonstrate some skills of building rapport. Some of these have been shown in previous assignments (word pictures, humour, gaining eye contact). Others are yet to fully explored (such as rhetorical questioning or asking the audience’s opinion on a specific subject).
Your evaluator will be looking at a range of things to see whether you have taken the audience with you, used appropriate pauses and gained a response from the audience.
