WKSC Members
Members' Stories
Here members of West Kent Speakers Club share their reasons for joining and how WKSC has helped them improve their confidence, learn how to communicate more effectively and in some cases helped to make big changes in their lives.
Matt Kyle - Joined 2006
I joined The West Kent Speakers Club because as an aspiring author, I will eventually be expected to stand up in public and do a lot of PR work on my writing.
Until now, I have always worked in environments involving small groups, and the thought of being faced with 100s of strangers who are all focused on what I have to say is enough to make me do 0-60 faster than a Ferrari!
The club nights, and working on the manual assignments has helped me to understand how to cope with speaking to larger groups and start to learn techniques which will show what I have to say to its fullest effect.
Monty Knight-Olds - Joined 2001
I joined West Kent Speakers Club because one of the ways I wanted to promote my business was by speaking to groups of retired persons.
I can now stand up with confidence in front of 100 strangers and give a prepared speech. Thank you to the other more experienced members who have helped me along the way, particularly Michael Breeze who evaluated one of my early public speeches and helped me to improve it.
Eddie Barnes - Joined 1986
I was a struggling salesman and joined a Speakers Club in the belief that it would help me develop confidence particularly when I was dealing with important customers. (as recommended by Dale Carnegie) I survived and thrived in the cut throat office equipment market thanks to the experience gained with the Club and later went on to start and run my own business. I am now able to stand up and sell my products to large groups such as Chamber of Commerce meetings without appearing nervous or tongue tied - on the contrary I actually enjoy the limelight especially if I can successfully include some humour into me spiel.
Terry Nunn - Joined 1998
I joined West Kent Speakers Club as I wanted to continue my experiences of giving business presentations and performing and to keep my brain active. This has been fulfilled more than adequately by the club and has even improved on the skills I already had, while at the same time I have being able to pass them on to others. It is a most friendly environment.
RAY FINN - Joined 1995
I cannot begin to put a monetary value on the skills that I have learnt since becoming a member of
the West Kent Speakers Club.
I became a member of Business Network International (BNI) in the late summer of 1997 and I am
still a member to this day. However, from 1999 until 2006 I was also employed as an Assistant
Director supporting BNI Chapters in Kent and Essex.
The growth of my business and my reputation as one of the top trainers in BNI is directly
attributable to the public speaking skills that I have developed as a member of the West Kent
Speakers Club.
PS. We also have fun!
