Meeting Review – West Kent Speakers Club – 8th September

12 members attended the first Sepember meeting of WKSC.

Chairman for the evening was Graham Pearce and Neil Lakeland acted as Timekeeper. As a warm up the chairman asked everyone to explain, in a sentence or two, why they’d joined the club. Reasons the members gave included:  to overcome a stammer; to improve sales techniques and because speaking in public is good for you.

Robert Adams ran a Topics Session based on ‘subjects that make him raise his voice whilst talking to himself’. Members gave their opinions on issues ranging from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight to Dennis the Menace.

Eddie Barnes gave a seven minute Impromptu Speech entitled, ‘O to be in England’, in which he explained why his favourite place to go on holiday is on a canal boat, exploring the Inland Waterways of England.

Evaluations were given by Ann Peters and Monty Knights-Old. After a couple more topics were handed out at random by the chairman, Chris Frost rounded off the evening with a general evaluation.
